Swine Flu

The University of Birmingham is aware that some staff and students may have concerns about the developing situation following the outbreak of Swine Influenza across the world.

The UK has moved to a treatment phase to manage the current flu pandemic. As a result GPs are diagnosing cases on the basis of clinical observation rather than laboratory testing. Everyone who has flu-like symptoms will be assessed by a doctor and if diagnosed with swine flu should be offered an antiviral medicine to manage their illness.

A University working group continues to keep abreast of the latest developments and to update the information and advice available to the University.

The links to the pages below provide regular University updates and include further links to expert organisations including the World Health Organisation, the Health Protection Agency and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

University status

The University continues to operate as usual and any forthcoming events will take place as planned. If circumstances change, we will alert our students, staff and visitors and follow any appropriate actions. We continue to monitor the situation and the senior management team is receiving regular briefings.

Please keep monitoring these web pages for the latest advice and guidance.
