We have unique partnerships with both the BBC and Sky News - and they both have bases at the University. Sky are based right next to our own studios and the Media Centre while the BBC Drama Village is located on our Selly Oak campus, just two miles from the city centre and the BBC's Mailbox development.
The Sky News bureau at the University was opened by Head of Sky News UK, Nick Pollard, in July 2003. The studio is home to two news correspondents, one freelance correspondent, a Sky Sports reporter and three staff crews.
The live studio is used regularly for guests by correspondents covering an area which stretches from mid-Wales to Norfolk and from just south of Sheffield to Oxford. It houses broadcast, editing and production facilities.
BBC Drama Village
Opened in early 2005, the Drama Village is part of a strategic alliance between the University and the BBC. Based in historic Archibald House on the Selly Oak campus, it is home to Doctors, Dalziel and Pascoe, the Afternoon Play and Grease Monkeys.
The BBC's drama department has won four Royal Television Society (Midlands) awards in the last year and more than 750 episodes of Doctors have been made at Birmingham.
As well as wardrobe, make up, costume storage and production offices, the Drama Village also has full post-production facilities on site, including a 4,000 square foot studio and standing set.
